Comedy Central New Series

Any Schumer, Anthony Jeselnik, and Ben Hoffman get new series on Comedy Central® (2013)

COMEDY CENTRAL has given series orders to three new shows scheduled to join the network’s roster in 2013, it was announced today by Kent Alterman, Head of Original Programming and Production, COMEDY CENTRAL.  The pick-ups include a weekly, topical series filtered through the dark and twisted mind of Anthony Jeselnik, and sketch series from razor sharp and unapologetic rising stand-up Amy Schumer and a sketch/man-on-the-street hybrid starring comedian Ben Hoffman.
“These three shows have one thing in common, and I dare viewers to watch every single episode to find out what it is,” said Alterman.

Known to COMEDY CENTRAL viewers from his blistering appearances on recent Roasts of Charlie Sheen and Donald Trump, Anthony Jeselnik will bring his signature dark and twisted point-of-view to the network in his new untitled weekly topical series. Jeselnik, who recently taped a one-hour stand-up special for COMEDY CENTRAL, “Anthony Jeselnik: Caligula,” routinely goes where few comedians would even consider going and holds nothing back, saying things most wouldn’t ever dare, all without the slightest hesitation.

“Money, money, money, money, money, money, money, money, money, money,” said Jeselnik.

The mischievous Jeselnik, once dubbed “the Satanic prince of stand-up, a black-hearted joke slinger with a ferocious and unstoppable will to power” by the A.V. Club and “a bad man” (meant in the nicest way) by Conan O’Brien, has written for and appeared on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” and has appeared on “John Oliver’s New York Stand-up Show.” His comedy album, “Shakespeare,” was released on COMEDY CENTRAL Records in 2010 and named Comedy Album of the Year by Punchline Magazine. Jeselnik received an Emmy® nomination last year for Outstanding Writing For A Variety, Music or Comedy Special for COMEDY CENTRAL’s “A Night of Too Many Stars: An Overbooked Concert for Autism Education.”

The untitled Anthony Jeselnik series is written and executive produced by Jeselnik and Head Writer Tom Johnson. Showrunner Krysia Plonka and Mosaic’s Christie Smith are also Executive Producers. Jim Sharp and Monika Zielinska are the Executives in Charge of Production for COMEDY CENTRAL.

Amy Schumer, who earned rave reviews for her scorching set during last year’s “Roast of Charlie Sheen” will star in a sketch series that will feature single-camera vignettes centered around a theme with Schumer playing heightened versions of herself. The vignettes will be linked together with stand-up footage.

“I am ecstatic to have a home at COMEDY CENTRAL,” said Schumer. “I feel like that network raised me. I love everyone there…though it may just be Stockholm syndrome.”
PHOTO: Comedy Central®
Schumer, who also recently taped a one-hour stand-up special for COMEDY CENTRAL, was a finalist on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing.” Since then she has been earning her stripes, working the road, making her one of the fastest-rising talents in the comedy scene. Her history with COMEDY CENTRAL is extensive having appeared on “John Oliver’s New York Stand-up Show,” “Live at Gotham” and “Comedy Central Presents” and she was one of the stars of the series “Reality Bites Back.” In addition, COMEDY CENTRAL Records released her first comedy album, “Cutting,” in 2011. Schumer recently appeared in the film “Price Check” opposite Parker Posey, which premiered this year at Sundance, and can currently be seen in Focus Features’ “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World” starring Steve Carell and Keira Knightley. Other television credits include a regular role during the third season of Adult Swim’s “Delocated,” as well as appearances on “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “30 Rock.”

The untitled Amy Schumer series is executive produced by Schumer and Daniel Powell and produced by Levity Entertainment’s Itay Reiss and Derek Van Pelt. Brooke Posch is the Executive in Charge of Production for COMEDY CENTRAL.

“The Ben Show” is a sketch/man-on-the-street hybrid starring comedian Ben Hoffman. Each week, Hoffman will take the viewers on a different life journey, which could include him forming a band, finding religion, auditioning for a reality show or trying out volunteer work. Hoffman seeks advice from people in his life both past and present including his dad, ex-girlfriends, and therapist and tries to figure out how to keep it all from going wrong. These guests also act as co-hosts, helping Hoffman introduce the sketches and keep the show moving.

“I am very excited to be doing this show for COMEDY CENTRAL,” said Hoffman. “And to all the girls I’ve met throughout my life who wouldn’t have sex with me... it’s not too late.”
Hoffman was a Writer/Correspondent for COMEDY CENTRAL’s “Sports Show with Norm Macdonald” and has written for the “MTV Movie Awards.” In addition, he has appeared on “Arrested Development,” “The New Girl,” “Drunk History” and as a co-star of Current TV’s “infoMania.” Hoffman recently and memorably pranked the Twittersphere and the media desperate for details about President Obama’s Hollywood fundraising event with George Clooney, tweeting as if he was present at the event.

“The Ben Show” is executive produced by Hoffman, Mike Gibbons, Itay Reiss, Derek Van Pelt and Judi Brown Marmel and produced by Levity Entertainment. Monika Zielinska is the Executive in Charge of Production for COMEDY CENTRAL.

ABC Disney Diversity Casting

This issue of THE COMIC BIBLE MAGAZINE has an article about the major networks diversity programs which includes some important dates to remember in order to apply.

One of the dates quotes is July – when ABC Disney Talent Program opens up.  To read the article pick up a copy at your local newsstand or buy it online at www.thecomicbible.com In the meantime, here is the information about the program directly from the ABC/Disney website;

Launched in October 2001, Disney l ABC Television Group’s highly coveted Casting Project identifies/develops culturally and ethnically diverse talent and actors with disabilities by hosting a talent showcase each year in New York and Los Angeles. Former participants include ABC talent such as Jorge Garcia (“LOST”) and Carrie Ann Inaba (“Dancing with the Stars”). Selected participants perform one-act vignettes for casting directors, talent agents, managers and other industry professionals who view a series of live, one-act vignettes performed by the actors.  The showcases are produced in partnership with AFTRA /SAG  and Actors’ Equity Association.

About The Program
Actors selected to participate in the Casting Project work with veteran directors for an intensive, two- to three-week rehearsal process in preparation for the East Coast or West Coast showcases. Each showcase spotlights actors performing one-act vignettes for invited casting directors, talent agents, managers and other industry professionals. Selected participants will be assigned a network executive from the Casting Department who will act as their mentor for one year. Additionally, participants will have access to various ABC and ABC Studios executives. Various workshops also will be scheduled throughout the year for the actors to further hone their craft. As a direct result of the Casting Project, 90% of our showcase actors have either auditioned for, or were cast as, a series regular, recurring or guest role on primetime and/or daytime television, as well as being cast in film and commercial roles. What’s more, 60% have either met or signed with agents.

When To Apply
The annual submission for the New York and Los Angeles Casting Project showcases varies.  [This year’s calendar for submissions is July and the L.A. program is scheduled for September.]

How To Apply
Actors must submit their headshot and résumé during the submission period.  No material will be accepted outside of the designated submission period.

About The Selection Process
After receiving submissions from across the country, each year the ABC and ABC Studios (New York and Los Angeles) primetime casting departments narrow down the search by selecting more than 1,200 actors to move into the audition process.

Requirements
Participants for each talent showcase must be at least 18 years old. Previous acting experience/training is required of all, but professional representation is not necessary.

Submit Headshots & Resumes only to:

Roseanne to be Roast-ed by Comedy Central

COMEDY CENTRAL ANNOUNCES THE “COMEDY CENTRAL ROAST OF ROSEANNE”
TO TAPE ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 4 IN LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, AIR ON COMEDY CENTRAL ON AUGUST 12 (10pm ET/PT)

COMEDY CENTRAL is rolling out the red carpet for one of America’s most outspoken and pioneering comedians.  The network announced today that Roseanne Barr will be the next Roastee.  The “COMEDY CENTRAL Roast Of Roseanne” (#RoseanneRoast) will tape in Los Angeles on Saturday, August 4.  The Roast will premiere on COMEDY CENTRAL on Sunday, August 12 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.

“Although Roseanne appears to be a demure, soft spoken woman eternally committed to the status quo, we believe under the surface is an explosive, trail-blazing cultural revolution.  We are honored to Roast her,” said Kent Alterman, Head of Original Programming and Production, COMEDY CENTRAL.  “Celebrating Roseanne’s unprecedented achievements in comedy and television will surely inspire us to make this Roast more reminiscent of the classic roasts, where the intimacy of friends jousting with each other came through.”

When asked about the Roast, Roseanne remarked, “All I can say is good luck finding anything about me to make fun of... I mean, I've never made a mistake or offended anyone in my life!”

Comics - get your funny on and enter the Klondike Comedy Showcase, a Twitter joke contest hosted by Twitter phenom Rob Delaney (@robdelaney). Recently named “Funniest Person on Twitter” at Comedy Central’s Comedy Awards, as well as National Lampoon’s “Twitter King,” Delaney knows his way around the online comedy scene. With nearly 450,000 followers he’s clearly already made a name for himself on Twitter, and he’d like to help you do the same.

Over the last several weeks, Rob and Klondike have been encouraging aspiring comedians and everyday jokesters to submit their own comedic interpretations of various predetermined joke categories throughout the summer. The rules are simple – jokes just need to be original and they need to include the KCS hashtag (#KCS).

Through July @robdelaney and @Klondikebar will be launching a new joke category each week (weeks 1-5 have already gone live). A finalist is being announced at the end of each joke phase. From there, the 10 finalists will face-off for a chance to win an all-expenses-paid trip with Rob to the New York Comedy Festival in November.

Visit the KCS leaderboard site for more details and to take a look at how the first several joke categories were received.

Funny Ladies Wanted

This summer, comedy producers are searching for the New York metropolitan area’s funniest women to take part in the Ladies of Laughter comedy contest for cash prizes, comedy bookings, gift certificates, merchandise and the 2012 Ladies of Laughter titles.
“Since it was first introduced into comedy clubs in 1999, the Ladies of Laughter series has awarded comedy bookings, major publicity and over $20,000 to comediennes and has been a driving force behind women comediennes getting to the next level in their careers,” said Executive Producer, Peggy Boyce.
The events have led contestants to appearances in local and national media, including ABC-Television, Comedy Central, FOX-TV and even to feature stories in the New York Times, not to mention the paid bookings many comediennes receive afterwards at major comedy clubs.
A percentage of proceeds from this year’s events will benefit Buddy Cares – an animal rights advocacy group that provides wellness and services to abandoned animals in need.
2012 Ladies of Laughter sponsors include, Gotham Comedy Club, Broadway Comedy Club, The Comic Strip, Leica Camera, Back Stage Magazine, Comic Bible and Andover Communications. Part of the prize package will also include the winner taking part in a paid comedy tour co-produced by Ladies of Laughter and Admire Entertainment.
Those interested in registering for Ladies of Laughter should go to www.ladiesoflaughter.org. Contestants must be eighteen years or older and must enter no later than July 20th to be considered for the 2012 competition.
Ladies of Laughter has separate categories for “Professionals” and “Newcomers”. Comedy Comes Together Laugh for Comedian Mike MacDonald

Need Laughers!! Here is a template to promo the show, please pass it along, use it, abuse it, edit it to promo the coast to coast comedy shows this Thursday:

!PLEASE HELP!
A Laugh is worth a thousand chuckles.
The biggest comedy club event ever held.
June 21, 2012 - You are being asked to go to your local comedy club and LAUGH to help someone else.
The largest group of people who mock every aspect of the life experience, have grouped together to support something that is hard to find humor in.
An unprecedented grouping of North America’s funniest talent. An event, the likes of, never seen in Comedy.

Comedy Legend Mike Macdonald has become ill and needs a Liver transplant. If he survives and finds a liver donor, he will be unable to work for at least a year and maybe two years. Last month Mike MacDonald reached out to his friends on facebook to ask if anyone was O negative blood type and would be willing to donate a part of their liver. Currently seeking a liver, the best comedians from New Brunswick to HOLLYWOOD have massed together to put on fundraising shows June 21, 2012. These fundraisers will help Mike with the living costs of being out of work for an extended period of time, and some of the medical costs that will be incurred during that time.
Comedy clubs across the continent have dropped competition and political lines for a day and donated their comedy rooms June 21, 2012. A massing of Comedians, have donated their humor to these stages. Never has there been a comedy club event of this magnitude. Now the comedians are asking you to come and enjoy the laughter they have crafted for some of them decades!! June 21, 2012 will be the funniest day …. Ever….
The night before, June 20, 2012:
The events will kick off in Hollywood at THE WORLD FAMOUS LAUGH FACTORY on Sunset Blvd, with an UNHEARD of line up of comedians on ONE show, ONE NIGHT ONLY:
Hosted by Jeremy Hotz
Featuring: Bob Saget, Dane Cook, Dave Foley, Tom Green, Kevin Nealon, Paul Rodriguez, Dom Irrera, Bobby Slayton, Harland Williams, John Wing Jr., Chris D’elia, Ian Edwards

Canadians are not always the quickest to help each other, but hopefully they will join these comedians and donate one night of having fun and get out to your local comedy club June 21, 2012 across Canada and June 20, 2012 in Hollywood (if you have friends there, call them and tell them to get a ticket)!
As anyone in Canada, that has tried to organize a fundraiser, will tell you that it is nearly impossible to get people to come out and support. However, this will be the funniest night of caring and compassion that you will ever witness. It is also historical in its size and span of co-operation! XM Radio is naming it Mike MacDonald day! It is also the first day of summer! It is also Mike MacDonald’s birthday! So, become part of history and buy your tickets today!
